(The only book on Web Analytics you'll ever need)

(Not enough GA application info)

(Gold Standard)

(Analytics for the intermediate user....)

(Now this is what I call Web Analytics!)
Technologies evolve, but the PROCESS by which we should collect and analyze online data in order to gain solid, actionable insights will remain constant for the foreseeable future.

I have been fortunate enough to work with some of the smartest online marketers in the business, and, to say the very least, most of these people -- especially those in the analytics community -- seem content to share their expertise in the most confusing and theoretical manner possible. But not Avinash Kaushik. And in "An Hour a Day," Avinash proves why he is the world's most trusted name in analytics: he brings us up to his level without unnecessary jargon, so we can actually understand how to do this stuff!

Without question, this book is required reading for ANY online marketer, business owner, or anyone currently outsourcing their web analytics. (Warning: You may become better at this than the people you're paying to do it for you!)

Have a website you're not properly tracking? You're not alone! Less than a third of e-commerce and B2B sites have sufficient web analytics tracking -- let alone a process by which to glean insight from it -- and it's not the technology's fault. The problem is that most people don't understand the VALUE and NECESSITY of web analytics. They don't realize it's the difference between sink or swim. For most organizations, web analytics is an afterthought; something pawned off to those with technical knowledge when it should really be understood by those who need to use this data to make serious business decisions. Well, folks, those days are over. If all you know about your site is how many page views, uniques, or (*yikes*) "hits" it's getting, you're in much worse shape than you currently realize, simply because you have no idea how much money and attention you're missing out on if you have no clear goals in mind or a system by which to quantify it.

If you're not measuring it properly, how can you ever claim to have an online strategy that's working? How else will you know how successful your campaign is? How else will you know which elements to test and optimize?

Whether you're a beginner or you know just enough about web analytics to be dangerous, you should absolutely buy this book today. The book pays for itself a hundred fold in the very first hour of the very first day.

My only issue is that the book doesn't address how to use google analytics more. He gives a lot of suggestions, but there isn't enough guidance in actually how to use GA to pull the data he recommends.
This book is amazing. If you think you knew everything or are in an analysis slump, just flip through this book and you'll find something new to analyze.
I have used Web Side Story...moved to Omniture....also work with Google Analytics.....This book does a good job of getting away from the mountains of data, to provide a clear cut "THINK ABOUT WHAT THE ANALYTICS MEAN" on a business basis- definitely worth the time investment.
I can consider myself as pretty noobish in the field of web analytics. I know SEO and usability, but web analytics has always been just looking at the number of visitors and pageviews. Until I received this book, because this book is a real eye-opener for the new comers to web analytics. It totally change your way of thinking about what web analytics is and how you can pull the best out of it.

I can't wait to finish it, which costs a lot of time by the way.

And students, you can consider this as a good step up to web analytics with theory plus hands on stuff. Like a real school book you learn everything you need from what to why. More than 400 pages long.

P.S. There is also a cd included with some nice stuff like a presentation from the writer, pdf and mp3 files with valuable information.

Written by an in-the-trenches practitioner, this step-by-step guide shows you how to implement a successful Web analytics strategy. Web analytics expert Avinash Kaushik, in his thought-provoking style, debunks leading myths and leads you on a path to gaining actionable insights from your analytics efforts. Discover how to move beyond clickstream analysis, why qualitative data should be your focus, and more insights and techniques that will help you develop a customer-centric mindset without sacrificing your company’s bottom line.

Note:CD-ROM/DVD and other supplementary materials are not included as part of eBook file.

(Big on theory, light on examples)

(Tim Ash is a World Class Professional - the book says it all)

(Comprehensive, Practical, and Actionable Website Optimization Guide)

(A good book to get you going successfully with your landing pages)

(If this book was avaialbe ten years ago, I would be retired by now)
The book is okay for some audiences. There is a complete discussion of theory but it is short on case studies and examples. Money would be better spent on the books available from Jakob Nielsen.
I traveled 6000 miles from Scotland to the USA to further fulfil my passion for doing Search Engine Marketing for my Scottish client base. I got the chance to actually meet the people behind the books who in our business are seen as the mastering mentors of our profession. through me being an Optimiser in the UK. I had the opportunity to meet Tim Ash, who is a very pleasant and knowledgeable person and this inspired me to buy his book. I have since read cover to cover, and the book is like the person. Since that meeting and reading of his Book Tim even went out his way to answer an email on a burning question I had - now that's commitment! It was an honour getting the chance to meet Tim Ash, the positive reviews here sum him up, so go ahead - get the book and get your website tuned up - today.
Amazingly enough, virtually everything you need to know about optimizing the commercial efficiency of a website (not just a "landing page") is included, concisely, in Landing Page Optimization. In addition to the motivation for doing optimization, how to select what to optimize, and, in detail, how to measure and analyze your optimizations, Tim Ash includes helpful summaries of the psychology of users and even of how to navigate corporate politics to get buy-in for your optimization project. There is very little about creating a successful commercial website that I did not feel more knowledgeable after reading this book.
The author no doubt knows his subject and I suspect he's good at what he

His discussion on testing is good and important. And he does answer some important questions. For example, should a landing page have lots of navigation or just enough? This book will help you in increasing your conversions. There's no doubt about that. But most of the information is available on the Web at this time. And I personally felt a lot was left unwritten and unanswered.

- Susanna K. Hutcheson

I am owner of unoptimized website and I found this book to be invaluable. My website was not performing as it should, but I didn't know how to correct the problems. Landing Page Optimization showed me why my website sucked and what to do about it.

If you own a website and you are paying for clicks, you had better read this book, because if your site is not optimized, you are losing money and lots of it.

How much money are you losing because of poor landing page design? In this comprehensive, step-by-step guide, you’ll learn all the skills necessary to dramatically improve your bottom line, including identifying mission critical parts of your website and their true economic value, defining important visitor classes and key conversion tasks,  gaining insight on customer decision-making, uncovering problems with your page and deciding which elements to test, developing an action plan, and avoiding common pitfalls. Includes a companion website and a detailed review of the Google Website Optimizer tool.

customer 's review
(The first six chapters are stellar)

(Really two books in one)

(future view is flawed)

(Interesting read if not a little pessimistic)

(Interesting, yes. Revolutionary, no.)
The Big Switch started out as one of the most interesting books I've read in a while. In part one Carr presents a terrific analogy between electricity and the Internet as general purpose technologies. Unfortunately part two is just as dull as part one is compelling. Part one succeeds in my view because it's an effective historical analogy rich in comparisons and historical insight. In part two Carr highlights the many of the issues raised by the development of Internet as a utility (i.e., loss of privacy). I think what's missing is the lack of solutions or unique insight. The first six chapters are stellar; I'd skim the rest.
For those who know or care about the infrastructure undergirding our technology revolution, this is a must-read book. The thesis is simple: we're at a tipping point where "utility computing" will quickly replace in-house data centers. It sounds simple, but the implications are not. The first half of the book lays out and describes the revolution, sometimes in breathless terms. The second half is much darker, however, detailing projected consequences. The author points out that a number of popular websites these days have nearly zero staff--the content comes from users and the infrastructure is rented utility computing from the likes of Google and Amazon. This means that huge online businesses do not translate to employment. In the past, when industries, such as electrical utilities, have undergone major transformation, people lost jobs, but new jobs were available using different skills. The author has a gloomy outlook here: the lost jobs may not be replaced. I suspect the real outcome will be a bit better. People are inventive and new technologies (perhaps not electronic) will need people. Overall, a great book, but I do think the second half is rather darker than it needs to be.
I found this book interesting when it covered the time period from 1870's to current day (2008). When the author began to discuss possible futures, I thought he was unrealistic and pessimistic. I do not think his forcasts are grounded in any sort of a good understanding of technology and are not to useful.

Overall this book is worth reading but the author should have stopped at the current time; his future views really distract from the quality of the book.

As a computer software professional, I took extra interest in this book and did find it interesting and thought-provoking but not that realistic and a bit pessimistic about the future of the knowledge worker.

The first half of the book is a history lesson about electrification and the impact it had on societies and on individuals.

The basic thesis of the first half of the book is the creation of the electric grid accelerated the concentration of wealth in large businesses. With electric light and power, businesses could build bigger and more productive plants, boosting their output and gaining advantages of scale over smaller businesses. Further, as the big companies expanded, they hired huge numbers of both skilled and unskilled workers and paid them good wages.

Since start of the Industrial Revolution, mechanization had been steadily reducing the demand for talented craftsmen - their work had been taken over by machines that required little skill to operate - and electricity accelerated this trend.

Part Two is about what Carr calls the "World Wide Computer" - the Internet as we know it. The WWC will displace private systems as the preferred platform for computing and traditional IT departments will be significantly downsized Carr writes.

The arrival of a universal computing grid portended a different kind of economic realignment, the author writes. Rather than concentrating wealth in the hands of a small number of companies, it may be concentrate the wealth in the hands of a small number of individuals.

Carr sees the power moving from many companies now that provide software to few with Google obviously being the main player with their growing suite of applications including YouTube.

Some examples of companies with smaller IT departments are provided to show that as much manpower isn't required to run services that operate over the Internet.

I agree with a lot of the comments made in the reviews already posted re there isn't a clear parallel between cloud computing and the electricity grid but it made for interesting reading nonetheless.

If there is or isn't a parallel does not matter too much to me as I was interested in how the author saw computing and computing over the Internet would change businesses and individual computing going forward.

As far as some of Carr's predictions, software as a service and cloud computing are here now (on a small scale) and I don't hear of mass downsizing of IT departments. If anything, different skills will be required to connect the disparate systems and Services Oriented Architecture will play a role in this.

Overall, I found it to be an interesting read but I enjoy reading about history and especially about technology.

A generally optimistic look at the cloud computing (under the auspices of remote processing/parallel or utility computing) future. Similar to Wikinomics, The Big Switch is a concept book that describes the World Wide Web using a myriad of hyperboles. Contrary to Wikinomics, The Big Switch repeats many of the same stories tech-history writers have been telling for years. To his credit, Nicholas Carr does include some insight and a few new stories, but overall those who have done any reading about, have background in, or follow technology headlines will find Carr's book less than satisfying.

On a positive note, the writing is easy to read and will be understandable for non-computer people. Also has the potential to get one enthused - if not slightly nervous - about the possibilities of technology.

A useful way to enjoy The Big Switch would be to borrow it from the library, skim, and copy out the few passages that will appeal.

An eye-opening look at the new computer revolution and the coming transformation of our economy, society, and culture.

A hundred years ago, companies stopped producing their own power with steam engines and generators and plugged into the newly built electric grid. The cheap power pumped out by electric utilities not only changed how businesses operated but also brought the modern world into existence. Today a similar revolution is under way. Companies are dismantling their private computer systems and tapping into rich services delivered over the Internet. This time it's computing that's turning into a utility. The shift is already remaking the computer industry, bringing new competitors like Google to the fore and threatening traditional stalwarts like Microsoft and Dell. But the effects will reach much further. Cheap computing will ultimately change society as profoundly as cheap electricity did. In this lucid and compelling book, Nicholas Carr weaves together history, economics, and technology to explain why computing is changing—and what it means for all of us.

(Missed opportunity (but still essential))

(Moondog's last concert!)

(Late Moondog)
Why are there so many tracks on disc 1 that are readily available on the Sax Pax for a Sax CD? It's too bad more of the impossible to find recordings from this period couldn't have been included instead.

Otherwise, it is great to finally hear some of this material and the disc 2 live concert is a treasure. All things considered, a bargain and a must for Moondog devotees.

Also note the packaging is very attractive -- but unfortunately on my copy, the binding/glue is already falling apart so the CD trays have seperated from the cover... sometimes plastic is a better way to go...

This is a professional production of an official double disc set that was released in 2004 (5 years after Hardin's death.) It looks good and has 44 enclosed pages of valuable information about Moondog, such as a detailed biography, discography, Moondog's own words about the recordings, personnel listings, lyrics, pictures and a poem that Leonard Bernstein wrote to and about Moondog.
Also seeing quotes of Benny Goodman and Frank Zappa praising Moondog's music is particularly exhilarating for a Zappa fan like myself (I had no idea.)

The first disc consists of already released material, most of which I already owned when I bought this set. This disappointed me a bit, as I'd expected additional versions of these titles provided on the back.
The set is called "The German Years," but includes 5 tracks that are taken from "Sax Pax for a Sax" - an album that was recorded in England and performed by English musicians, and consists mainly of material that was written while Moondog lived in New York. Other albums that songs have been taken from are "H'art Songs" (4 tracks,) "In Europe" (4 tracks,) "Elpmas" (4 tracks,) "A New Sound of an Old Instrument" (3 tracks,) "Big Band" (1 track) and "Bracelli" (1 track.)

The 56 minute long disc #2 is the essential music in this set as it consists of only previously unreleased material. It is Moondog's last concert, which was recorded in France on August 1st, 1999 (less than 6 weeks prior to his passing.)
The concert, which consisted of both rare and recent material, was performed on solo piano by Dominique Ponty. At times Moondog joins in on bass drum, and here and there he recites a few couplets - a nice treat. But as always, when it comes to live recordings of solo piano performances, we have to deal with intruding sounds; aside from applause we get a few hundred coughs, a squeaking door that repeatedly opens and closes, at one point the barking of a distant dog, at one point the sirens of an ambulance driving by the recording location, and believe it or not - audience members trying to clap along to one of the solo piano canons! ...but overall the sound quality is very good and clear.

I'd recommend "The German Years 1977-1999" to Moondog fans (who haven't heard his last concert,) but to people who aren't familiar with his work, this might not be the optimal place to start.

When Louis Hardin moved to Europe in 1974, he was received as visiting royalty -- unlike his home country who treated him as some sort of one-joke street-performer. For the next 25 years, until his passing in 1999, he produced an astonishing variety of music for organ, brass band, voice, piano, percussion, small chamber ensemble, and string quartet.

Disc one of this collection contains an anthology of his German recordings, and presents a clear advantage over the originals in that every track is on a different instrument. The listener never gets a chance to grow weary of any one style, allowing you instead to concentrate on the commonalities running through all of Hardin's music. As a sampler of the work done in his senior years (ages 61-83) it's a remarkable collection showing verve, inventiveness and playful iconoclasty.

Disc two presents his last concert, previously unreleased, from Arles France on August 1st 1999, just five weeks before his death. Pianist Dominique Ponty, who I believe is the daughter of famed violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, plays 34 of his pieces for piano or arranged for piano. Louis 'Moondog' Hardin himself accompanies her on tambour, a big skin drum, on several of the tunes, and recites six couplets in his rich ageless baritone.

Also included, a 44-page booklet of photos, notes, lyrics and critical comment. This is a first-class production for one of the last century's most enduring and original composers.

Beautifully packaged two CD compilation consisting of recordings from the last 20 years of Moondog's life, when he resided and recorded in Germany. Disc One consists of studio recordings from 1977-99 and features 'High On A Rocky Ledge', 'Do Your Thing', 'I'm This, I'm That', 'Heimdall Fanfare', 'Fujiyama 2 (Lovesong)' and more. Disc Two is his last live performance, recorded a month before his death, and is wonderfully recorded, sounding as well-produced as the studio tracks on the first disc. The packaging includes 44 pages of liner notes featuring essays, interviews, photographs and other information, all packaged in a hard cardboard sleeve, creating a virtual work of art.
Includes Material from 1977 Thru 199, plus Moondog's Last Live Concert with Dominique Ponty, Previously Unreleased.

(Sax Choir Arrives)

(yes, oh yes, moondog is the best)
this music will wake up you up.the group band show us showmanship at its best.to playing piano, harmonica, drums, singing guys its wonderful..
we like this music for people that like jazz, blues or pop..
moondog music in this CD is a blockbuster......

Great Americana! Hip! Just wonderful!
My one regret is that I didn't have a chance to book this in US before he died. There is a video of this btw.

This is amazing. And no, it's not jazz. This is composed music, and it spits in the face of the academic axiom that concert music has to suck in order to be any good. Truly unique and truly listenable, why isn't this a best-seller?
I grew up loving Boots Randolph, Ace Cannon, King Curtis, and Johnny and the Hurricanes. I was browsing through the net looking for something on Simon Haram(a well known current European classical Saxophonist) and stumbled on this Album. I have never heard anything like this. Its my music find of the year (I am an iPod addict). This is a Sax dectet (1 Sopranio, 2 Soprano, 2 Altos, 2 Tenors, 2 Baritones and Basses) and then they throw in drums, piano, and bass guitar. My ears feel massaged with sound. I will only quote some review from the net:"The dectet of saxophones plus piano and bass guitar that is London Saxophonic is staggering... sounded like an Arvo Pärt choir jamming with the Bulgarian National Assembly of Throat Singers, yes it was that good." The Independent -- Believe this!!
this music was already in my head before I heard it. blocks of chords ascending and exploding in fugal fireworks, plus evocations of an imaginary jungle-jive Paris love affair. unbelievably soulful, funny, charming, surprising. you like moondog! you like moondog! buy moondog!
The first new music from Moondog, nee Louis Hardin, in more than 20 years,Sax Pax for A Saxis probably the best introduction to the work of this eccentric former street musician. A joyous outburst,Sax Paxtouches on influences ranging from Miles Davis' groundbreaking "Birth of the Cool," sessions ("Dog Trot"), medieval motets ("Tout Suite No. 1 in F Major"), and bebop's harmonic innovations ("Bird's Lament" and "Present for the Prez"). There's even a male chorus showing up occasionally, sounding like they stepped out of a Busby Berkely musical as they jauntily sing the praises of Paris, New York, and London. But the music's precise counterpoint and buoyant inventiveness could only be Moondog; listen and be enthralled.--Steven Mirkin

In stock soon. Order now to get in line. First come, first served.

The major themes of financial regulation in the U.S., the EEC, and Japan are discussed in four interwoven, but independent, essays. The central focus is the protection of the financial system by insuring prudential rules against systemic risks, particularly through promoting capital adequacy by international and national agreement and with due consideration to the distinction between the banking and securities business. The work concludes with the assertion that international harmonization of regulation is necessary for the long-run efficiency of financial markets.

The second and considerably expanded edition of this work examines the application of EC competition rules to all forms of permissible industrial cooperation and change in corporate structures. In particular, the book provides an in-depth analysis of the Merger Regulation in view of Commission case law during the first two years' operation of the Regulation, together with an analysis of the application of Article 85 to joint selling and purchasing, research and development, specialization, restructuring, cross-shareholdings and production. The substantial text is supplemented by valuable appendices. Thorough indexing, cross-referencing, detailed index and tables of cases and legislation render this a very accessible, major new work of reference for practitioners, academics and students alike.

    (WOW)

    (Great plate!)

    (awesome plate)
So, you guys realize.... I lived there for a year (in Germany.) People will just give you their used plates because they get new ones every time they re register their car. So, about every family has two or three sets laying around the house, and I brought like 5 plates home just for free!!!
They're great! Don't get me wrong, I love having them on my wall! Something unusual for people to comment on! And I even enjoy them. But, 25$ is a bit steep! The company you're buying them from gets them donated to them most likely! (Not to say that knowing how much they're selling for, I am not thinking about starting to sell them too, i know tons of people that would gladly ship me number plates for selling here! i think I might now in fact, for just 20 dollars! That's such profit!)

    GREAT ITEM!!

so I just realized! The one you're buying here is a replica! what a rip! haha, I will then definitely be selling mine, real ones! great business idea!

make sure if you give this kind of money out, that you're at least getting the real product and not a replica!

Looks just like the one I had while stationed in Germany.
just as described in the picture, letters and numbers could change mine startes with BME- but it's still that original european union feeling
The European Economic Community tag is the newest plate in circulation, direct Europe! Each is a standard 21 tag, constructed of authentic .032 aluminum bearing a combination of eight numbers, letters and symbols; these are replicas of actual European-issue plates.

Ben 10 decorations were hard to find, so I was relieved that I found this cake topper. It was perfect, and my son LOVED it since he is TOTALLY into Ben 10 everything !
I never got it and ended up scrambling to put something together for my son's birthday.
Ben stands approx 3" tall and it is a 3D figure. The other figures are printed on a clear plastic. You can either lay them flat or stand them up. This cake topper comes with three figures and it is easy to apply.

(It bring my son to dinning table)

    (Review from Grandma)

    (Wiggles Dinnerware)

    (AWESOME Wiggles!!)

    (best thing ever)
I bought this set for my 2 yrs old son who is a big fan of Wiggles. He carried this set since I took it from the shelves in the store till home and openned is right away. he almost quit his bottle by using the wiggles cup to drink milk. This is a great set for Wiggles fan.
Although not sent to my grandson yet, I expect he will enjoy it----He LOVES ANYTHING Wiggles---
If your child loves the Wiggles, you need to get this set! Make mealtime a fun time with this dinnerware!
Just as promised. Our son loves the Wiggles plate, bowl and cup! Perfect.
I love the hard plastic...if my child drops it, it's okay...no broken dishes! I wish that I could find these pieces sold seperatly because I would deffinetly buy more bowls and plates.

This quality 3-piece dinnerware set features the whole Wiggles gang, including Captain Feathersword, Dorothy, Wags and Henry, on the plate. The bowl pictures The Wiggles riding in their Big Red Car. The cup pictures all four Wiggles dancing.

    customer 's review
(Is this better than DELL VOSTRO 1000?)

    (Great value, fun computer)

    (Good deal)

    (Worth Every Penny)

    (E E E... Easy Excellent Exciting...)
I am wondering if I should go with VOSTRO 1000 from DELL and install my own choice of Linux (say Ubuntu)? It has 80GB hard disk allowing lot more storage. It also comes with Vista, just in case.
I considered both this and the 20G model before deciding on this one. Main decision factor was the under-$400 price tag.

Excellent travel computer: have taken it on a weekend trip, and compared to my IBM T-60, easier to pop out of the bag to go through security, and quite a lot less weight. Also easy to stow in my smaller messenger bag for use on train when commuting or on day trips.

Easy to use interface, though I do want to switch it over to full-featured Linux. I've showed it to a lot of people who don't even know what Linux is, and they have all been impressed with the user friendliness.

Finally - I bought this for school, for note-taking. Been using the IBM T-60 for two years. I'm looking forward to having the lighter weight in my bag, and also to being able to see my profs over the screen more easily. After a couple weeks of casual use, I'm finding the keyboard works pretty well, although it's small - the only big drawback is that the non-letter keys are even more reduced-size, and I often slip up when going for a ctrl- or alt- keyboard shortcut. I think this'll improve as I type on it more, tho.

I was about to buy the 4GB EEE PC when this 16G version appeared. Hesitated about 2 weeks, then bought the 16 GB with Linux. I have it for a week and don't regret it. Works fine, the system is easy to use for someone who doesn't have much computer experience and an expert can tune it up to his needs.
For $400 this is very good deal!

Thoughts I gathered during the "hesitation period":
Compared to the EEE 900, 20 GB which costs $550 the "catch" seems to be the disk speed. This 16 GB version uses cheaper but slower SSD disk. According to some test I found, its write speed is very low (about 7 MB/s) compared to the 30 MB/s of the 4GB or 20GB model. My simple test showed write speed about 14 MB/s with large video file.

Since I did not want to spend over $500 on this thing, my options were either this or the 4GB. The 16GB won for these reasons:

    - Bigger screen with better resolution which allows you to browse web without horizontal scrolling (unlike the 4GB screen which is only 800 pixels wide)

    - Bigger RAM memory (1 GB vs 512 MB of the 4GB model)

    Technical points:
1GB RAM is still a lot. Windows XP were designed when 1/4 of a GB or less was common, so on 1 GB it runs like a breeze. Unless you have about 10 programs running, there should be no need for the system to swap between RAM memory and the disk - which is where the disk write speed could make a difference. The Linux system has disk swapping disabled and I would do the same on Windows XP if I decided to install it. If you get a low memory warning from the system you can always close some program, but you can have a lot of programs open before this happens with 1 GB of RAM.
You can also disable the cache in the Firefox web browser to speed up the web browsing.

I don't have the 4GB model to compare, but the speed of this one is reasonable. Nothing unusably slow. Sometimes it takes couple of seconds for a program to start after you click it, but it's the same as on normal computer with Windows XP. It makes sense, because for starting a program, the disk read speed matters, not write and the read speed is not so bad.
The system starts in about 30 seconds, turns off in about the same time, though several times it took much longer (perhaps over a minute) to turn off. I didn't try it yet to the end, but the battery could last for about 2.5 hours.

    Cons:
The keyboard could be better, it feels kind of cheap and you have to press the keys rather hard.

    Conclusion:
The bigger screen and RAM are well worth the $50 more this one costs compared to the 4GB.
You should not buy this as your primary computer or laptop though. For all your pictures, music a videos, 16 or 20 GB is not enough and you'll be better off with normal laptop with at least 120 GB hard drive, which you can get for about the same price as the 20GB model or EEE 901.
This is good as a second computer, to use in a waiting room, train or bus or any other place where normal-size laptop feels too big. For travel it should have longer battery life (as the 901 version has), but I would not pay $600 just for that.
It can also be good for your mother, wife, kids...anyone who's not much into computers but needs to browse the internet and do some typing, e-mailing etc. Another good use is watching movies in bed.

I had read a lot of reviews on the eee PC 900 16G, and not all favorable. Not enough RAM, CPU too slow, keyboard too tiny, touchpad too sensitive. But they were inconsistant and the advantages seemed to outweigh, so I ordered.

Received it yesterday and this little thing is a blast. Boots up crazy fast. Excellent screen. Yes, keyboard is a little tricky ... you just have to type slowly and carefully. I don't plan on downloading much so 1G of memory is fine plus I tested inserting an extra SD card and it worked great. Web surfing is a tad slower than I'm used to but nothing irritating. I adjusted the touchpad to suit and it's good. It didn't want to recognize my home wifi signal at first but I did some online research and tried a couple simple things and now it zeroes right in after booting (and I have low tech skills). Build and finish quality are really good too.

After 1 day, my wife also loves it and so do my kids. I bought it as a supplement (not replacement!) to my bulky 15.4" laptop and am now glad I did. It's not perfect, but close, and a fantastic value for only $400.

Asus markets this computer an easy, excellent, and exciting computer to use. They are not wrong with this piece. I own the 701 model and have purchased this one because for the same price as my 701 model ($400), I am now getting a 1.9" larger screen, double the memory, four times the storage space, better resolution, an improved webcam, and a better touchpad. I use the EEE when I'm laying in bed and when I travel. With all the things that go with me on travels, the last thing I need is a computer deadweight. It is light, compact, and fits in woman's mini backpack purse (or larger sized purse). I don't even notice it with me, and carrying the computer is no longer a hassle.

While the 900 model does not have the new Intel Atom chip or the longer battery life, it does work quickly to boot everything I want to use it for - IM'ing, web surfing, and email. I also have the ability to do work with Open Office, which has drivers compatible to Microsoft Office. Hence, transferring files is easy. As a bonus I did not expect, the Linux version includes some perks - such as a music manager (for a small library of my mp3 favorites to play), games when I'm bored, Internet Radio, and handy references tools (e.g., dictionary). I chose this version over Windows because of the quicker boot and everything ready to go. With the Windows XP version, the only included software is Microsoft Works. In addition, with the 901 and 1000 series, the weights and prices of the EEE start to increase, and go against my inexpensive convenience. It looks as though Asus repackaged this model line because its "new life" was only one month before the 901 came out.

Please note that the keyboard is small. I had the same problem of it being cramped. However, my fingers and me got used to it quickly, and I no longer have problems with typing errors. It takes a bit of patience, but will all work out.

One drawback to the unit is that Linux uses Mozilla. Unfortunately, if you're web surfing a site that shows video only via Internet Explorer, you will be out of luck. The other thing to consider - if surfing the web for several hours, consider purchasing a mouse.

All in all - a great investment.

The new Eee PC 900 offers you more options for your mobile computing needs. Incorporating a shockproof design and weighing 2.18 pounds, you will find it "Easy to learn, work and play" - making it your best outdoor companion anywhere, anytime. The large 8.9? screen size allows for more screen space - making it more comfortable on the eyes reading and editing documents when viewing a single A4 page without the need to scroll left or right. On the top of this screen is the 1.3 Megapixel Webcamera that works synchronously with the 802.11b/g wireless to provide web conferencing anywhere, anytime for easier web communications and increased work efficiency. Another great feature is the built-in 16GB Solid State Disk (SSD) which offers 15 seconds boot times that makes for a quiet, energy saving, shock proof design, which is ideal for reporters, wildlife photographers and other like-minded outdoor enthusiasts. Preinstalled on the Eee PC is the Linux operating system, and Open Office for numerous office applications. Lastly the special FingerGlide makes operating the Eee PC easy and convenient through simple finger movements on the touch pad that allows for scrolling horizontally and vertically through documents by swiping two fingers up or down across the surface of the trackpad, or zoom in or zoom out of pictures by making pinching or stretching movement with your fingers. With all of these features the Asus Eee PC makes for a fantastic purchase as a well-equipped second PC or a Web access tool so beat the crowds, and get yours today before they sell out! The Asus Eee PC 900 provides the power of a full-sized laptop in a compact body with a larger 8.9-inch screen. Even with the larger size of the Eee PC 900 when compared to the original Eee PC, the new model weighs just over 2 pounds--perfect for students toting to school or road warriors packing away to Wi-Fi hotspots. And because it uses flash memory instead of a hard drive (with 16 GB of storage), the Eee PC 900 is optimal for weathering rough handling and sharing space in overstuffed bags.

The Asus Eee PC 900's 8.9-inch screen is easier on the eyes, and the integrated webcam makes video chats a snap.
Other features include a 1.3-megapixel webcam integrated into the bezel above the LCD, a Secure Digital memory card slot, Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g), multiple USB ports, a VGA output for connecting to a monitor, and 1 GB of RAM. It comes preinstalled with the Linux operating system, and it's also compatible with the Microsoft Windows XP Home operating system.

For the students and professionals, the Eee PC comes with a powerful selection of software to maximize personal productivity--over 40 built-in applications. The Open Office suite of software enables the user to open, edit and create documents, presentations, spreadsheets and databases that are compatible with Microsoft Office. For journalists, photographers and other professionals who need to use a computer in the field to create, to communicate and to collaborate with other colleagues, the Eee PC's combination of power, extreme portability and rugged build makes it the ideal computing solution.

No technical manual required with the specially designed, user-friendly, and intuitive graphic interface.
It's also a great choice for young students, with a built-in Dictionary that's great for homework, and it includes two modes of intuitive graphic user interface design to accommodate both experienced and inexperienced PC users. The Eee PC also handles your digital images, movies, and music as well as Internet radio.

Nicely light at just 35 ounces, the Eee PC 900 has an 8.9-inch wide TFT LCD with a 1024 x 600-pixel resolution (WXGA)--making it more comfortable on eyes than its predecessor. Under the hood is a 900 MHz Intel Mobile CPU with integrated Intel graphics processor, 1 GB of RAM (not expandable), and 16 GB of flash memory solid-state drive (SSD). The SSD provides quiet performance and helps save energy, while its shock-proof solid state design helps to guard against data loss or shock-related damage if the laptop is dropped.

In addition to its wireless LAN, it also offers wired Fast Ethernet connectivity and a 56K modem. The Eee PC includes software for Web browsing (Firefox), e-mail, OpenOffice 2.0 for creating and editing word processing documents and spreadsheets, and a suite of other productivity software to help keep you on track.

You get three USB 2.0 ports, a VGA output for connecting to external monitors, headphone and microphone jacks, and a Secure Digital (SD) memory card slot. The rechargeable battery provides up to 3.5 hours of battery life (depending on usage). It's backed by a 1 year warranty for parts and labor.

i really wanted to like this laptop, but there wasnt enough pros for me to keep it. i sent it back to amazon, will follow up soon with a customer service review.

    many thanks, take care.

I travel a lot and over the past few years I have been on a quest for a laptop that was small enough not to be hassle to drag around (which for me means 12" wide or smaller, and 4 lbs or less), but was also fully functional. I need a gig of RAM to run the graphics programs I use, and 40 gigs of storage is not enough anymore.

I have used a series of ever-smaller laptops from Gateway and Dell, but I really, really like this little Asus. I have a little satchel that I use when I go in the field, which is designed to hold maps and a compass. It's a small satchel--you can't fit a normal-sized magazine in without it bending. And yet the Eee fits inside (just barely).

How small is it? It can sit on an 8.5x11 piece of paper without overhanging the edges. The keyboard is big enough that it doesn't impair my typing. The 1024x600 screen takes a little getting used to--the other little laptops I've used have been 1200x800. Still, for me the slightly smaller screen is a fair trade for the improvement in portability.

I can see how a lot of people wouldn't like this machine because it's too small. Most of my friends think I'm crazy, but I look at their 8-pound monsters with screens almost a foot and a half wide, and all I can think about is what a pain those must be to take on an airplane.

So far I haven't had any performance problems at all. There is a faint hum from the hard drive fan, which probably only jumps out at me because my last laptop had a fan-less solid-state drive, which is silent. I doubt if it is something most people will notice; it's no louder than other fan-equipped laptops I've used. The built in megapixel webcam is a nice touch in a machine this small. The speakers are great, too.

I prefer to use open-source software, so the first thing I did was get online (it detected and connected to my home Wifi immediately and with no problems) and download Firefox and OpenOffice. I moved my files over from my external hard drive, and in an hour I was fully up and running with everything I need. Eee stands for "easy, excellent, and exciting"; I think Asus has achieved all three with this little gem.

Ordered the eee pc 1000h from ebay, got it on 7/25.
Having played with it for almost a week now, i can safely write something for this little wonder.

Originally I was planning to buy the msi wind because the 6 cell wind has very similar configuration as eee1000h, but it was 150 dollars less expensive(6cell wind $499 vs. eee1000h $649). Later on msi announced 6cell wind won't be available until late august/early september due to battery shortage, and eee1000h price was reduced by $100. Since eee pc series already have pretty good track record and msi wind is relatively new, I made a quick decision: placed an order on ebay and never regretted my choice since then.

The eee1000h comes with windows xp home sp3. Booting takes about 30 seconds. LED screen is pretty bright. Basically I can get very good lighting when brightness is set to about 30%. It comes with two partitions, 40GB each. After charging the battery, the first thing I wanted to do is to install ubuntu hardy 8.04 on the second partition and set up dual booting. I messed up with disk partition the first time, so I decided to try the recovery dvd. Man, the recovery is FAST! believe it or not, it took only 4 minutes 30 seconds to recover to factory pre-installed state. At first the ethernet and wireless didn't work under ubuntu. After fixing the drivers(credits to http://ubuntu-eee.com/index.php5?title=EeePC_901),
everything worked perfectly(except Fn keys, only brightness control works under ubuntu, but I can live with it). One thing i noticed is that ubuntu seems to be more powering consuming than windows xp. With xp, my battery shows 6h 35m at 100% when doing nothing, with brightness 30%, wifi on and bluetooth off. With ubuntu, the same condition shows only 4h 18m. I guess that has something to do with xorg/compiz always running in the background. The keyboard feels pretty responsive, I can type really fast on the keyboard. The CPU is powerfull yet very quiet. It doesn't get so warm as previous eee pc series. The lid hinge is sturdy and the black ebony case feels solid, although it gets my finger print very easily.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. Greatest laptop ever!!

So I purchased this Asus Eee 1000H model in black at an electronics chain store in Taipei, Taiwan. I believe the local prices are slightly cheaper than the US retail price, but not by much. Don't worry.

I'm a MAC enthusiast. I currently own the regular MacBook and do all my hardcore writing on it. But when I travel to meetings or conferences, I needed a smaller laptop. Yeah, Apple's 12" macbook is still too bulky imo. I'm female and with 3 inch heels, every little pound counts! Besides, other than my regular handbag, I hate to carry an additional laptop bag. So Eee was my best bet.

I looked around similar offerings by HP, Dell, and Acer. For the specs, price, and the roomy enough 10" screen, I opted for Asus.

Did consider MacAir, but it's just too expensive right now, and I'm waiting for the 2nd generation to roll out with glitches fixed.

10" screen is the smallest I can go, because with smaller Eee models, I can't type without making a ton of mistakes and doing so hurts my hands.

The power up speed is extremely fast. Love Windows XP. This model comes with Microsoft Work, not Office. But for basic writing, and excel I don't mind Works.

Connects to my broadband in a heartbeat, detects wireless networks too.

The aesthetics is great. I love it in black. White can get dirty too easily. Yes, it does accumulate fingerprints, but you can easily wipe it down with the cloth they've included in the package.

Powerful, flexible, inexpensive, little unit. I love it, and it comes with a black microfiber sleeve to store your Eee inside your bigger carryon.

    Great for kids too.

But for handsome 6 feet tall 200 pound men, I suspect not too suitable! =)

【Flash Version konnte keine US NTSC und PAL erkennen.】

Also ich hatte keine Probleme ...
Also mein Chip läuft überhaupt nicht!!!
Spezifikationen: * Direct boot of wii backups * Direct boot of GC backups * Direct boot of home ew in GC mode * Supports all currently available console/drive versions * Supports D2B chipsets * Sophisticated (true) update mechanism via DVD (future proof. expect cool features to come) * Direct boot of different NTSC region Wii games/backups on US and JAP consoles * Partial support for NTSC region Wii games/backups on PAL consoles * Boots different region GC games/backups (partially without swapping) * Supports multi-disc games for BOTH Wii and Gamecube * Supports DVD-r true DVD+R and +RW support (no bitsetting required!) * Improved readsettings for recordable media * Built-in audio fix * Supports fullsize 4GB discs for gamecube home ew * Stealth mode * 512 byte EEPROM to store configuration * Quicksolder interface - no wires required * Unique disc backup application via sdcard * Compact design. best quality components. rock solid high speed controller * Professional ESD packing * Recovery mode - Can recover from a bad flashen

    IPhone 3G used's review
    (So far, so good!)
『So far it is everything it says it should be. It's fun and easy to use and setup.』

(contendor for a great gaming system)
『I bought the nintendo wii for my 11 year old child. He loves it so much he can hardly stop playing it. I played some wii games with him such as wii sports and wii play. I am thinking of getting wii fit for the wii to help me excersise. If any of you adult folks want an excersise machine that is more fun than treadmills or weightlifting chairs, the wii will be the object you are looking for. So I suggest all of you great citizens of America go out buy you and your family a nintendo wii.』

    (Who Can't Love IT?)
『I'm sure some of you out there are Wii haters, and that's cool. But for the rest of us average-joe mostly non-gamers this is a totally fun system.

It's easy to enjoy all the standard games with only a small level of gaming ability. Just be ready with Tiger Balm when you're done to address the strain in your shoulder joints. I seriously thought about icing mine after a strenuous game of tennis.

Also, this system travels beautifully. Pack it up and take it to the next party you go too.

I know some folks may think lowly of the Wii as it isn't as hardcore of a system (owing to its games) as the other seriously hardcore gaming systems out there, but who died and decided that a video game systems couldn't simply be mindless and fun? Geeze, isn't that how video games started out anyways?

Highly recommend this for couples, families, older folk, tennis players, those who dream of touring withe PBA or PGA and anyone else in between.』

(Great exercise even without Wii Fit)
『I wanted to get Wii Fit, but couldn't find one so I went ahead and just started with the Wii. Much to my surprise, even these games are great exercise and a lot of fun. Try bowling 4 or 5 games with each hand. You've just done about 80 lunges on each side. If you don't feel that the next morning you're in a lot better shape then I am or else you're a whole lot younger!』

    (Fun for parties)
『We have had our Wii for over a year. We bought some extra games to play, but so far, the ones that came with it (sports) are still our favorites. We don't find ourselves playing with it unless we have a party, and need to entertain the teens or younger adults with something. Younger kids like it too, but the controls can be a little confusing for them when under age 5. My 5-yr-old had no problem figuring out how to do the bowling, or boxing, but tennis still baffles us all somewhat. Sometimes we swing, and it doesn't register as a swing at all, or it's "late" with the response.
We don't own any other game systems. We chose this one to help us get up off our "sitters" now and then. No problems with the system. We are just getting to know all the "Wii points" and other stuff that can expand the system more. Overall, I'm glad we bought it.』

(Waste of time - don't waste your money)

    (Half and Half)

    (Just an absolute train wreck)

    (Very Disappointed.)

    (Heroes is my hero.)
I was so excited when season two started up. After being blown away by season one -- a superhero show that wasn't stupid! Character development! Plot development! -- I couldn't have been more let down by season two if they'd deliberately tried. Not only did I stop caring about characters I'd previously loved, I actually came to loathe them due to shoddy handling of them -- I sincerely hope Niki is dead now, girl just got on my last nerve. I couldn't even begin to care about the utterly useless new heroes that were introduced, and even a returning villain managed to be boring.

Hiro's big story arc was nothing but predictable and actually annoying most of the time. There were gaping plot holes throughout all of the story arcs, and the finale was so abrupt and utterly non-climatic -- just as much of a let down as the season itself.

I might watch season three, but I won't be looking forward to it nearly as much as I might've had they put any effort into this season, and that's just sad. They had a great show here, and they may well have managed to trash can the whole thing with one poorly written season. And that bad writing started well before the writer's strike, so the blame can't be laid there. It just plain sucked.

Ok the first 6 episodes were not very good, but episodes 7-11 are very good. In essence, don't spend $26 on four good episodes. While the season is cheaper than the last one, you get less episodes and they're not as good. Download the good one or wait because even the most hardcore Heroes fans probably won't be picking this one up right away.
At least X-Files had the good graces to die a horrible death after giving us 5-6 solid, can't miss seasons before going completely off the rails. Heroes barely managed to keep it together for one, and that points to a lack of creative vision, execution and direction. Shame on them for taking the best new show on TV in years and making a mockery of everyone who looked forward to next week.

If you felt incredibly let down by the horrible anti-climactic 'confrontation' at the end of Season 1, do not expect Season 2 to make up for it. In fact, quite the opposite, leading one to see the end of Season 1 as nothing more than a portent of (crappy) things to come.

After season one of Heroes, I was hoping to be 'blown' away with season 2. I was sadly mistaken because I wasn't. Season two takes characters we love and throw them into a never ending chaos of silly story lines. Of course the bad buy is back again and pretending to be good. Hiro is by far my favorite character but him undoing his own good was a bit silly. I know time travel is a fascinating idea but with him doing what he did...well...it wasn't what I was hoping for. In all honesty, I don't even remember that much about season two because there weren't enough episodes for me to remember! The writers should be ashamed of wanting more money just to write a script. Gimme a break!! If I was to write a script I'd put everything I Have into it. Besides! I'm sure they get paid PLENTY!! They are just greedy and upset because they probably don't get health care or dental insurance. Anyway, Season two was a waste of air time. I'd rather watch re-runs of the Simpsons than Season 2 of Heroes. I do hope that when and if Heroes does return that they will actually give us viewers a reason to watch it! Good luck NBC! If I were you I wouldn't renew the show.
The start of Heroes was undoubtedly one of the greatest things to happen to television in a while. Season 1 is better than season 2 though. I didn't think that season 2 was that bad. I actually enjoyed it a lot. If you watched season 1, get this season. You'll need to be prepared for the 2 hour season premiere in September. I cannot wait! I have reason to believe that season 3 will make up for some of the flaws in season 2. The only reason I'm giving this a 5-star rating instead of a 4, is because I don't think that it deserves a 3-star rating. But I do give it a 4. A must have for your collection.
Rejoin the epic and suspenseful phenomenon as Heroes: Season 2 arrives on DVD! Experience all the new and exciting twists of the astonishing series in this 4-disc set that includes every gripping Season 2 episode. Plus, see what could have been with exclusive bonus features that reveal the untold stories that never aired and an alternate ending to the season finale, where the fate of humanity takes an ominous turn when Peter fails to catch the vial containing the deadly virus.

    (Over the Line, Sagging Badly)

    (2nd best season)

    (Retarded.)

(Still better than most of today's trash tv, but falling fast.)

(The best show on TV right now)
I have to preface this by saying that House is one of my favorite shows. However this last season was almost unwatchable at times. In the first 3 seasons we learned that House could be a real jerk, but we felt that underneath it all he cared about his patients (and about his relationship with Wilson) and that his less admirable behavior was more from past baggage and not from malice and inherent nastyness. His game-playing usually benefited his patients or forced his team to recognize something in themselves. We forgave him his behavior because the net outcome was always positive. (And because he was always right, ultimately.)

In Season 4, however, House is playing games just for the pleasure of watching the negative reaction. Worse, he is shown as being wrong in his diagnoses. This is over the line. I guess we're supposed to believe that he is sinking to a point where he will be forced to choose between his relationships with patients and friends vs whatever neurotic jollies he's getting from his negative behavior. But you can't change a character's nature just to fit your dramatic needs.

He does indeed reach a choice-point in the final episode of the season, and this is the best episode this year, but the set-up for this isn't worth it.

I do feel for the writers of this show. It's extremely difficult to keep a show fresh over 4 years (and more) and there is a need for longer archs and conflicts. Season 4 just wasn't one of their more successful efforts.

A new team helps House out at the begining&House must eliminate members from the team till there only 3.

The story plots where better but I messed the old team cause they had that charm to them. There still there but not as envolved as much as they use to.

The last 2 episodes in season 4 are the best episodes ever for the series.

My favorite seasons go in order>>>1,4,3,2

Except such a review would be an insult to the retarded. Because even retarded people deserve the respect of intelligence.

For me personally, this was the season that Fox basically shot itself in the foot. About the whole fellow-selection thing: If I wanted to watch Survivor, I'd watch Survivor. The show introduced too many characters and provided a scant amount of background about each one. What I really liked about the first few seasons was that we delved further and further into the characters' histories, peeling the onion back and learning more about them with each episode. The longer the show has run, mostly in season four but also declining in season three, the less we learn about the characters and the more insubstantial the episodes get. They used to be dramatic, philosophical, funny, heartwarming, touching, terrifying, amazing... Now it seems they only focus on comedy and cheap, soap-operatic thrills that test even the most staunch believers in "Creative License." The episode that really killed this season for me was Mirror, Mirror. It was just such a cheap, unimaginative piece of work that I really started to lose my faith in House as an original, creative series. House has slowly devolved and is now, sadly, pretty much like everything else on the market today.

What a great show and this season was also great!!! I love the whole survivor aspect that was going on at the begging and watching house be the jerk we have grown to love. Definitely a must buy. The only downfall of this season was the writer strike which reduced the amount of episodes for the season.
Prepare for even more baffling, complex and shocking medical mysteries than ever before as every season four episode of House arrives on DVD! Reunite with the perplexing and prickly Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie in his two-time Golden Globe®-winning role) as he tackles impossible cases while putting a new staff of potential team members - including Kal Penn (Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle), Peter Jacobson (The Starter Wife), and Olivia Wilde (The Black Donnellys) - through the medical wringer with his trademark sarcasm and irreverent bedside manner. Get ready for another dose of one of TV's most original dramas and what Entertainment Weekly calls“One of the most compelling characters in TV history.”

    (As Good As The First)

    (Great movie)

    (Good sequel)

    (Good Action Movie)

    (very entertaining)
National Treasure 2 has an exciting plot, amazing suspense and fantastic
action sequences. It held my interest throughout and was very believable.
I enjoyed it as much as National Treasure 1, I highly recommend it.

I do like this movie because I do like the first one. Watching this in high definition does make a huge difference. The storyline and action/scifi is better than the first. Can't wait for part three, if any.
This movie is a great sequel to the first "National Treasure" movie. The characters were still their same treasure hunting loving selves and they added the mother of Ben, who couldn't have been better in her role. This movie was a continuation of the last story, but could also stand by itself as a whole new story.
This movie had alot of action
It was alot better then the 1st one had more action then part 1
A great movie the whole family would enjoy

a lot of twists and turns, very entertaining, keeps you guessing and wanting to know what happens next, great cast - helen mirren and jon voight are brilliant, loved it.

Less engrossing than its 2004 predecessorNational Treasure, Jon Turteltaub's busy sequelNational Treasure: Book of Secretsis nevertheless a colorful and witty adventure, another race against overwhelming odds for the answer to a historical riddle. Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage), the treasure hunter who feverishly sought, in the first film, the whereabouts of a war chest hidden by America's forefathers, is now charged with protecting family honor. When a rival (Ed Harris) offers alleged proof that Gates' ancestor, Thomas Gates, was not a Civil War-era hero but a participant in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, Ben and his father (Jon Voight) and crew (Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger) hopscotch through Paris, London, Washington DC, and South Dakota to gather evidence refuting the claim. The film is most fun when the hunt, as inNational Treasure, squeezes Ben into such impossible situations as examining twin desks in the queen's chambers in Buckingham Palace and the White House's Oval Office, or kidnapping an American president (Bruce Greenwood) for a few minutes of frank talk. Helen Mirren, the previous year's Oscar winner for Best Actress, wisely joins the cast of a likely hit film as Ben's archaeologist mother, long-estranged from Voight's character but as feisty as the rest of the family. Returning director Turteltaub takes excellent advantage of his colorful backdrops in European capitals and the always-eerie Mount Rushmore, and oversees some wildly imaginative sets for this dramedy's feverish third act in an audacious and completely unexpected, legendary setting. IfNational Treasure: Book of Secretsdoesn't feel quite as crisp and unique as its predecessor, it is still ingenious and wry enough to laugh a bit at itself.--Tom Keogh
